Written by a master of dialogue and a federal prosecutor, the dialogue sounds as if it was pulled from wiretaps and the story is among the most realistic, unforgiving, portrayals of criminals ever written. We're launching a world premeire of the first stage adaptation of The Friends of Eddie Coyle, bringing the dialogue, the characters, and perhaps the most realistic depiction of crime's underbelly to the stage. We open at Oberon, Harvard Square, in December -- and we're seeking funds to ensure tickets remain affordable so we can tell this one of a kind story in a new way, to a new audience. Eddie Coyle is a couple of weeks away from a jail sentence for trucking stolen booze, and making some money supplying guns to a crew of bank robbers. He's trying to stay alive and out of jail among his friends: robbers, bartenders, cops, rats, and hitmen. Elmore Leonard called it the best crime novel ever written. Writers from David Mamet to Quenten Tarantino learned from the use of dialogue. And no one has captured the character, the humor, and the poetry of the Boston dialect as well, before or since. Performed live, in a nightclub style theater, the story can unfold all around the audience. A story of lies and betrayal at the lowest rungs of the crimnal underworld. No fake accents -- Local talent We're casting locally grown, experienced actors to bring this story to life and be true to the time and place where it's set: greater Boston, winter of 1969-70. The play swirls around from neighborhood bars, to supermarket parking lots, to a trailer park in Orange, to banks, to the Boston Garden to watch Bobby Orr play. And this is why we're asking for help. To bring the story to life properly, it takes a crew of eleven actors, lighting designers, sound techs, costume designers, and set designers to do justice to the story. All of these people will be working diligently to produce a quality show, and bring The Friends of Eddie Coyle to new audiences. All funds raised support these professionals and produce a quality and affordable show for greater Boston. December 8 - Jan. 15 We will run for 11 performances at Oberon, Harvard Square -- and ticket prices will largely be determined by the success of our fundraising. All City agencies and departments are working together to ensure the storm's impact is minimized as much as possible and the recovery after the storm is quick, safe and efficient. It is unlikely that evacuations will be required; however, the city will have two emergency shelters ready if needed. The two facilities will be the Peabody School, located at 70 Rindge Ave., and the King Open School, located at 850 Cambridge Street. These facilities will be open and ready to accept residents starting at 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Anyone requiring transportation to these facilities should call 617-349-4800 after 6 p.m. on Saturday. Residents and businesses who have sustained lower level or basement flooding in the past are encouraged to take preemptive measures to reduce damage as the City is unable to pump out basements of private residences and businesses. Residents and business are also encouraged to secure outdoor furniture and equipment that may become dangerous with the heavy winds that are expected. Please do not use candles in the event of a power failure. Instead, make sure to have flashlights and batteries on hand. For weather related updates, please tune into local stations. Hello! On Sunday Sept 18th , we will do our Buena Vista Social Club Cookout again! The Buena Vista Social Club has always held the cookout in the early fall, but this year it will be even better: This year, the Cambridge Ward 10 Democratic Committee (of which I am a proud member) is co-hosting it with us. As you may know, Ward 10 takes in the Avon Hill, much of Porter Square and the Raymond Park Neighborhoods. So you may have a few more neighbors to meet! I have attached a flyer, which I hope you will share with friends and neighbors, or pass on this email, because our email list doesn't include everyone by a long shot. As usual, we will not park on the first block of Buena Vista Park so we can close off the street to Cambridge Terrace. The driveways facing Upland will be clear for seating and games as well. We need all of the usual basics---tables, chairs, a couple of grills (Jim and I will supply one), ice chests (and ice), condiments, napkins and serve ware (we have some from last year, but we need more), recycling and trash cans (Jim and I can supply one of each), .. You get the idea. The Ward 10 folks are bringing hot dogs, burgers, etc., but feel free to bring your chicken legs, veggies for grilling, anything else. And, of course, side dishes, chips and dips, and desserts (yum). We will be keeping track of who's coming and what they plan to bring (so please RSVP!). We are planning to have a musician for the kids, face painting (and tattoos!), balloons, but if you have talents to share, or would like to help entertain kids, let me know. Please also bring toys and games to share outdoors. We have a couple of things for kids to ride, and a bunch of paddles and shuttlecocks, but use your imagination...
