I wanted to let you know about a series of six free workshops for Cambridge residents we will be holding all over Cambridge over the next few months. These bike workshops are a how-to and focus on using your bike for transportation be it to work or the park. A poster is available for our first event which will be here at the City Hall Annex this Thursday from 6:30-7:30pm in the 2nd floor community room. If you would like a pdf or hard copy please let me know and I will get it to you. I should have complete confirmation of the rest of the classes in the next couple days and will let you know at that point. They will be held in East Cambridge, Central Square Library, Main Library and schools in North Cambridge and West Cambridge. Your help getting this information out would be greatly appreciated. Neighbors, We were able to defeat the variance request for a Dunkin Donuts franchise at 1678 Mass Ave because of overwhelming neighborhood response. We presented over 200 signatures to the petition asking the BZA to vote down the request a fast food variance at that location. We also had experts in zoning from the Mass Ave Neighborhood Improvement Committee testify as to the conscious zoning against fast food operations on this stretch of The Avenue (and our 2 ½ year effort to promote a Master Plan for Mass Ave Improvements) and the lack of any “hardship” worth overturning the zoning and neighborhood opposition. The Globe reported that the FCC will restore the city of Boston's right to regulate basic cable rates. http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2012/04/09/boston-wins-authority-control-c… Might this apply to the city of Cambridge too? Because there is no competition for Comcast here, we pay far more than users in Belmont, Arlington, and elsewhere.

Neighbors, Some of you may not have officially signed the petition. We must turn all of the petitions in Thursday eve. For those of you who have not yet responded - Please do TODAY by sending me an email with your name and address. And don't stop there. Take a minute to reach out to other community members - friends, spouses, etc. - and ask them to send an email to me as well from their own email accounts. PLEASE - we need every signature we can get. Not only for this variance request but, now, apparently, for the larger zoning battle that looms ahead over FF on our stretch of the Ave. Thanks, Ruth Petition of Agassiz and Neighborhood 9 residents We, the residents of Agassiz and Neighborhood 9, request that the Board of Zoning Appeals of the City of Cambridge, honor the zoning which prohibits fast food restaurants on our portion of Massachusetts Avenue. Specifically, we request that the BZA does not approve the variance request for Dunkin Donuts to operate a fast food franchise at 1678 Massachusetts Avenue. We, the neighbors of this part of the Avenue, believe that the volume of traffic and the potential for double and illegal parking will be a nuisance and a hazard to our community. Please uphold the current zoning and deny this variance.
