The key is careful planning and education. Try to serve finger foods to avoid the need for tableware. Everything used must be reusable, recyclable or compostable. Tell guests what to recycle and compost, and place signs throughout your space. Use reusables whenever possible. Otherwise, use compostable tableware certified by the US Composting Council <http://www.bpiworld.org/Certified-Bioedgradable-Foodservice-Items-Plates-Cu ps-Utinsels> . Please note that local compost facilities currently do not want "compostable" cutlery, they find it does not actually compost. Make sure there is no plastic, metal or glass in your compost. Collect material in compostable bags, paper bags, or cardboard boxes. Buena VIsta Social Club Neighbors: The recent postings about a local Yard Sale got me thinking. We've all got stuff we'd probably sell at a yard sale, but no one wants to put the effort into doing it alone. Maybe we could pool our resources & do a multi-family yard sale some weekend. If you think this is a good idea, and want to do it later this summer or early fall, reply to me (NOT the whole list!), and if enough people are up for it, we can make it happen. Opens at 9:00, goes through lunch — when homemade Chinese Noodles will be on sale, along with yummy baked goods and lemonade all day. It winds down at 2:00. Always great items to buy — and always for a good cause! *Fancy dresses and a keyboard (on its stand), Boots and Leather Pocket Books, Men's, Women's, Boy's and Girl's Clothes and Household Appliances, Games, Toys and Ice Skates ... and the delicious baked goods and homemade Chinese noodles at lunch. *This year the Yard Sale/Bake Sale's proceeds go toward printing copies of the Sprouts' spiral-bound book "Energy Lite." They want donate the book + a Kill A Watt meter to *every *public library in Massachusetts — all 370 of them. "Energy Lite" is already in our libraries in Cambridge, and in all of the libraries in Boston and Medford, there for for families to borrow so parents and kids can learn together about how to conserve energy in their homes.
