Upon arrival, responding units from the Cambridge Fire Department (CFD) encountered very heavy wind driven fire conditions on the roof. “Our crews needed to advance hose lines over aerial ladders in order to extinguish the fire,” said Assistant Fire Chief Gerald Mahoney. “This was an extremely labor intensive operation for the firefighters on scene.” Three alarms were ultimately transmitted for this incident and no injuries are being reported at this time. > > Damage to the roof is significant and the Cambridge Fire Department estimates that the roof covering and insulation, and a number of HVAC units will need to be replaced. Additionally, the third floor of the building has significant smoke and water damage. The Kendall Plant provides ³Green Steam² to Kendall Square and reduces carbon emissions equivalent to over 52,000 cars per year. This operation involves flowing steam through a pipe for the purpose of pipe cleaning. The cleaning will result in large clouds of steam, which may cause curiosity and/or emergency phone calls from the general public. Veolia Energy has notified Kendall Square businesses and has also made a trip across the Charles River into Boston to alert residents and businesses. It is also important to note that the Cambridge Fire Department will be on site for the duration of this operation to monitor the procedure. Cambridge Police Seeking Suspect Following Stabbing Near Porter Square CAMBRIDGE, Mass. May 27, 2015 The Cambridge Police Department is seeking to locate a suspect involved in the stabbing of a Somerville resident last night at approximately 10:32 p.m. <x-apple-data-detectors://1> in the Porter Square area. The victim was stabbed in the arm with a knife following a verbal exchange between the two known parties. Cambridge Police located the victim standing and bleeding from his left arm on White Street, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital. The suspect and another known party left the scene on bicycles and headed north on Massachusetts Avenue. An arrest warrant has been issued for Stephen Picard, 45, homeless, for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.Picard is described as a white male, heavy-set, wearing glasses and an orange shirt, and often seen riding a mountain bicycle. If members of the public do come across Picard, the Cambridge Police asks that they do not approach him, but immediately call 9-1-1 or 617-349-3300 <tel:617-349-3300> . It is about 20 years old (and cost too much at the time!) and in need of sanding and paint. It would likely need a few new ladder rungs and whatever one does with an old swing set to make it more stable. It would need to be refurbished to be used for a family. If you'll take it it's free. If you only want the swings they're free too, but you've gotta take the swing set for us and recycle it.
