There is a dark blue VW Jetta parked in front of our driveway at 7 Herbert Street. It does not have a Cambridge Resident sticker, nor a Visitor Permit, but I’m guessing they are visiting someone in the neighborhood. It has been there for over 24 hours now. Over 4,700 Cambridge residents age 12 and older voted to decide how to spend $700,000 on capital projects to improve the community - a 13% increase from last year. Participatory Budgeting is a democratic process through which community members directly decide how to spend part of a public budget. The goal of PB is to directly involve residents in the budgeting and City-building process, foster civic engagement and community spirit, and help ensure that the City¹s Capital Plan reflects the priorities of Cambridge residents. After community members brainstormed project ideas in June and July, volunteer Budget Delegates researched and developed those ideas into formal project proposals from August through November. Proposals that were vetted by City staff and approved by the City Manager appeared on a PB ballot in December for a public vote. The food is wonderful, and reasonably priced. Baraka had been on Pearl St for 20 years and they were sad to go. I am hoping we can all welcome them to the neighborhood and support them. The food is mostly Tunisian and other food from the region. I also noticed that an Indian restaurant is getting ready to move in to the West Side Lounge space.
