One is for a training being done by the Somerville PD for people who are interested in becoming a certified Recovery Coach, who helps people struggling with substance abuse issues. The second is for a documentary airing next Monday night at the Main Library in Cambridge, focused on the opioid crisis in Somerville. Third is for the annual Overdose Vigil to remember those lost to the disease of addiction, this Thursday evening in Carl Barron Plaza. The City of Cambridge is collecting information on residents’ awareness and perceptions of the urban forest (all the trees in the city) through an online survey as part of the Urban Forest Master Plan project. The Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP) will help the city grow, preserve and improve the quality of the urban forest. You can learn more about the UFMP and take the survey by visiting the project site www.cambridgema.gov/UFMP. The survey will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. The survey is offered in multiple languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin, Haitian Creole, Bengali, and Amharic. Survey results will help to inform the development of the Urban Forest Master Plan. I am thrilled that she is in our Counseling and Psychology program. As soon as I talked with her on the phone last spring, I felt sure that she would be an engaged, experienced, and focused student. We just finished a three-day course and I got to know Victoria a little better. She has never been in the US before and arrived this past Sunday after a 28-hour flight. She is temporarily staying with relatives in Dracut but needs housing closer to campus. Here is what she wrote about her hopes for housing: Am looking at 2 options : 1) a room that doesn't cost more than $500usd when it comes to monthly rent either with a private bathroom or shared bathroom(as long) as its a clean one but also would gladly take up a free rent offer if someone would either want me to take care of their home or dog(s). Wanted: a roofer and an expert on Cambridge housing codes

Dear Neighbors, looking for two kinds of experts. First, a roofer or handyperson who is willing to sniff out the causes of possible water damage and make repairs. (We have been told that roofers much prefer to do big projects rather than diagnose smaller problems, but that's what we need right now.) Second, our plans to finish our basement and create some nice living space down there were dashed--we hope temporarily--by some tricky building code issues. We need a lawyer, contractor or other expert familiar with residential building codes and, perhaps just as important, the ins and outs of dealing with the Cambridge building commission inspectors and officials. Any suggestions appreciated! Best, Tom

We need Managers for "Clean Up Porter Square" tomorrow!

If you are coming to “Clean Up the Porter Square and Mass Ave” tomorrow, and can help by managing a handful of young workers, please let me know. All you need is some cleaning experience! Ruth rryals(a)comcast.net ************************************ Up to 30 Harvard students, PSNA members , neighbors, St. Church members and Porter Square and Avenue merchants will take brooms and dust bins, implements to pick up trash and cigarette butts, and in general spiff up our neighborhood (our “living room”) from St. James Church at Beech St. to the corner at Shephard St. DPW will help by picking up the bags of collected trash placed along Mass Ave that day. They will also power wash the plazas at the Square/T! Marjorie Decker’s office got the MBTA to wash the T stop windows! The City and Gravestar are giving us a lot of supplies, and Gravestar will have a couple of workers to help us in the plaza in front of the shopping center. Let me know you are coming, or just come help us. Kids are welcome to come and help. I am guessing our young students will need some older, experienced cleaning help/direction. Thank you, Ruth
