The selected artworks will appear in large format in vacant storefront windows throughout the city, and each of the 5 finalists selected through the “People’s Choice” process will receive a $1000 honorarium. Voting matters—aesthetically and financially, so reaching a broad community is important. PEOPLE’S CHOICE POLL: CAMBRIDGE VACANT STOREFRONT CREATIVE DESIGN CONTEST February 21, 2019 The Vacant Storefront Creative Design Contest, a partnership between the Community Development Department and Cambridge Arts, aims to energize Cambridge neighborhoods by filling empty storefront windows with reproductions of locally-made art. Over 400 original art works were submitted to the contest by artists of all ages. A jury has selected 13 semi-finalists, which are currently displayed in an online gallery and at the City Hall Annex, 344 Broadway. The community will select the 5 finalist designs through voting in a People’s Choice Poll, open through Friday, March 8th. · To vote online, click on the People's Choice Poll survey · To vote in person, visit the City Hall Annex (344 Broadway) to view a poster display and fill out voting cards located in the building's lobby. That was in NJ. It catches the vast majority of robocalls, but the phone rings once before it catches them. They love it. There's also this company that keeps telemarketers on the line and harasses them. It's hysterical. I haven't tried it yet, personally. I know a lot of people don’t have landlines anymore (which if you are on Comcast I think is not really a “landline" since it goes thru your modem) but that is a different topic. We have also invited Citizens Bank to present their revised signage and awnings proposal for their new spot next to Target at the Porter Square Galleria. They made an initial presentation of their application to City Council, who asked them to meet with PSNA. On a conference call Carol O’Hare and I explained that we are asking all of the merchants in and around the shopping center to think “small city neighborhood” rather than “strip mall” in their presence here. The meeting will be at Lesley University Hall, Room 2-078, 1815 Mass Avenue, from 7–9 pm. See you there! She is bringing us an update on what the city has/will be doing to keep track of/assist in the rental of the city’s vacant storefronts. Bring any news you have about new sites/potential tenants. We have also invited Citizens Bank to present their revised signage and awnings proposal for their new spot next to Target at the Porter Square Galleria.
