Come one, come all! Cambridge Arts River Festival Returns To Charles River June 6, 2020 Join us for the annual Cambridge Arts River Festival as it returns to Memorial Drive along the Charles River for the first time since 2013. It will be held between John F. Kennedy Street and Western Avenue, near Harvard Square, on Saturday, June 6, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival will feature staged and roving performances, hands-on art-making, Sculpture Racing, the Mermaid Promenade, and more than a hundred artists and food vendors with work for sale. Mermaid Promenade: Application. Deadline: March 20. Cambridge Arts is seeking mermaids/mermen, stilters, dancers, artists, drag performers, cosplayers, and other costumed performers to lead the participatory parade. We are also looking for artists working in all media to create large puppets, portable sculptures and other works of art to be featured in the parade. So after we take care of Election Commissioner business on Thursday, we will hear from all six of the competitive presidential campaigns! Now calm down, we have none of the actual candidates. We're not miracle workers, people. But the six candidates who participated in the last Democratic debate in Las Vegas are all sending surrogates to make their final pitch for your vote before the Massachusetts Presidential Primary next Tuesday, March 3. Each campaign will present a short closing argument, and then we will have a question-and-answer period for all the campaign representatives. Where and When: Thursday, February 27 at 7:00pm (wards may meet at 6:30) Lesley University Hall, 1815 Mass. Ave. (map) As always, this is a public meeting — so bring your friends & relatives! This is not true. The calls begin with a recorded message stating: “This is an apology call from your utility. You have been overcharged by your third-party provider. You are entitled to a refund and a 20% discount. Please press ‘one’ to get your refund.” Upon pressing “one,” the resident is connected with a live operator who states that he is calling from Eversource, and then attempts to get the customer’s name, address, and utility account number in order to “process the refund.” When residents have questioned whether the call is in fact from Eversource, the caller has insisted, repeatedly, that he is in fact calling from Eversource. Eversource will NEVER knock on your door or call you to discuss your electricity bill. Protect your electricity account number like a credit card. Below is the notification from Eversource: Don't become a victim Scammers are always looking for new ways to deceive our customers. You may be the target of a scammer if you receive suspicious phone calls or text messages using any of the following tactics: Threatening to disconnect your power without immediate payment Demanding immediate payment using a pre-paid debit card, bitcoin or other unusual form of payment Offering you discounted power Asking for information or a copy of your energy bill Even if a phone recording sounds convincing or the phone number appears to belong to Eversource, it’s NOT. Please remember that Eversource representatives never ask for on-the-spot payment in person or over the phone, and always carry company-issued photo identification. If you’re not sure the person contacting you is an Eversource employee, call us at 800-592-2000. You can also always find our phone number on your bill or at Eversource.com. Looking for a few good volunteers! Bring your neighbors and vote. All are welcome! **************** Well, 2020 is heating up! On March 8th, at Graham & Park School, Ward 10 Democratic Committee will hold its 2020 Caucus, from 2-5 pm. We would love to have you all attend, but my big ask today is for HELP. We need help running the caucus! We need folks to register voters, distribute and collect ballots, count the votes, record the results, etc., all to elect 11 delegates and 4 alternates to send to the State Convention on May 30th in Lowell, where among other things, the delegates will decide whether they endorse a Senate candidate (Markey vs Kennedy). The theater, WAM, is producing a play at the Central Square theater. Apparently the assistant director lost free housing they were supposed to have during the run and is looking for another free place to stay. WAM is a really great company, they give away their profits to groups that empower women. I saw their production of Pipeline in the Berkshires and thought it was very good. In exchange for putting up the director, I suggest you ask for some comp tickets!
