We also continue to collect Children's books, used in good condition or new. Our Chelsea partner is happy to receive them as we have them. We will have a separate box next to the food collection box where you can leave books. Thank you. DROP OFF TIME: Friday, Jan 8th, anytime from 9am to 3:00pm. NOTE: any food left off after 3pm we still collect and deliver the following week, so all gets there eventually! WHERE: 175 Richdale Ave entrance to Cohousing. Pursuant to the BZA’s feedback at the December 10, 2020 Comprehensive Permit hearing for 2072 Massachusetts Avenue (“December Hearing”), we have posted an alternative development proposal that reduces the proposed building’s height along Massachusetts Avenue from nine (9) stories to eight (8) stories (the “8/6 Plan”). While we are providing the 8/6 Plan as a feasible option at the BZA’s request, we continue to advocate that the previous 9 story/6 story proposal presented at the December Hearing (the “9/6 Plan”) is a better overall plan as it includes a higher percentage of family apartments and the resident roof deck. The 8/6 Plan included includes the following changes from the 9/6 Plan: · An overall reduction of 2 apartments, from 49 to 47 total apartments; · A reduction in the overall percentage of family apartments pursuant to the following table: 1BR 2BR 3BR Total 16 (14) 19 (21) 12 (14) 47 (49) 34% (29%) 40% (42%) 26% (29%) 66% Family (71% Family) *numbers in parenthesis “( )” reflect the 9/6 Plan · A reduction from nine (9) stories to eight (8) stories along Massachusetts Avenue; · Elimination of the roof deck due to the 8/6 Plan’s smaller roof area and financial feasibility; and, · To maintain minimum family unit requirements, the form of the 8 story Mass Ave building has been extended along the property line between Russell Apartments and 2072 Mass Ave at the 7th and 8th floors as indicated in the rooftop plans in the cover letter to the BZA. According to Denise Jillson, executive director of the HSBA, the fridge hut with a pantry cupboard was designed and built by Cambridge resident George Pereira with assistance from Al Salvia and Matthew Pereira. It was transported to its site at 52 Church Street by Trinity Property Management staff including John DiGiovanni, Danny Mehigan and Jose Piedra. The hut was re-assembled in place by George, the Trinity crew, and Sinclair staff including Josh Bhatti, Erick Jenson, Ben Gram and Jared Dobson. Jillson stated, “We were so pleased when Cameron Van Fossen of Y2Y and Josh Bhatti from the Sinclair reached out to ask us to join their efforts to bring this project to life. With the help of George Pereira and his team, as well as enthusiastic support from John DiGiovanni, who not only provided for transporting and assembling but also allocated space for the installation, this project came to fruition. We are also grateful to Harvard Square residents Cat Turco and Philip Borden for their generous contribution to this campaign. Their thoughtfulness allowed us to fill the fridge immediately, with enough funds remaining to stock it several more times! This project was truly a team effort." Volunteer Evie Hartenstein explained, "'Fridge in the Square' is a mutual aid organization driven by the heightened levels of food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Massachusetts has seen unemployment rates as high as 17.4% and a 100% increase in demand from local food banks." Hartenstein further stated, "The fridge is operated by neighbors, for neighbors serving Harvard Square as part of a national network of community fridges. With the principle 'take what you need, leave what you can', we aim to redistribute resources within our community to those in need on a hyper-local scale. Our work is solidarity, not charity. All are welcome to contribute to and use the community fridge.” In addition to Evie Hartenstein, volunteers from Cambridge Community Fridge include Sara Brande, Isabel Campbell-Gross and Hannah Milnes. Hartenstein said, “There are many other volunteers who have helped along the way as well. This really was a community-based project and it couldn't have happened without us all working together.” If you would like to volunteer, please go to Sign Up Genius. I was contacted by a friend of a friend who needs some help. I won't get into the details here, other than to say she is a young woman who has a 4 year-old daughter. Her daughter's father went to probate court last year and was granted custody of their daughter based on some false information. He has a long arrest history, was not previously involved in his daughter's life, but the court granted him custody. Since that time this mom, who was a DV victim in the relationship, has been representing herself during numerous court hearings. She really needs an attorney to look at her case and hopefully take it on. She is on a very limited income and really needs someone who will take this on for free. There is a lot more to this situation. I'm not "officially" involved in any capacity, but I think she is getting the short end of the stick and I offered to reach out through my avenues to see if I could find her an attorney. Peg EvansDavis Square • 40 min ago Attempted house entry for robbery. Last night at 1:00 AM a man tried to enter my home through the back door. I was watching TV and heard strange noises at the door and my dog started barking. I got up to check and noticed the door was unlocked. When I went to lock it I saw the screen door had been pulled open for entry and the would-be robber was standing there. I yelled and scared him, so I was able to close and lock the door and heard him walking away. The police came and looked for him on foot, but didn't find him.... So please make sure your house and car are locked every night. Description of person involved – Hair: possibly blond??, Top: maybe a high school jacket, Bottom: didn't notice, Shoes: didn't notice, Age: Very young kid, Build: average, Race: white, Sex: male, Other details: He had a large sack and may have been high.
