That’s right, folks, Outback 2022 is off to a roaring start and the kids are having a blast! We are beyond excited to welcome new and familiar faces into our Outback community for 8 fun-filled weeks this year. Outbackers will have the chance to do sports/games, ceramics, visual arts, music, dance, drama, STEM, and of course have plenty of time to dig in the sandbox, hula hoop, run in the sprinkler, and spend time with friends, old and new. Our teaching team is an enthusiastic and caring group of people with a fantastic mix of interests. Our core full-year team is rounded out with some new additions to the summer team, including several former Outbackers who have grown up through our programs! In addition to all the fun activities that fill the day, teachers are guiding and supporting children to develop healthy social-emotional skills and build a strong community. We are focusing on perseverance, bravery, self-control, kindness, friendship, patience, good sportsmanship, flexibility, cooperation, self-confidence, and figuring out how to be our best, unique selves! Outback has a strong reputation for a reason, and we are deeply committed to making Outback accessible for all income levels. Not only do working parents rely on having safe, reliable, affordable, full-time childcare, studies show that children who spend their summers in a nurturing learning environment will return to school in the fall with reduced learning loss, better prepared to have a successful school year. This year, there is an unprecedented number of registered families in need of financial aid to access a high-quality summer camp experience. We have 50 children receiving financial assistance to attend Outback this summer. Summer programming is a huge piece of our annual income and integral to our ongoing recovery from the pandemic. Raising funds to support this ambitious scholarship effort is essential to avoiding a deficit and being financially stable this fiscal year while remaining committed to our mission of being welcoming and inclusive. This opportunity is open to rising 7th-9th graders and we have 67 teens joining us this summer to participate. One of the most important aspects of the CIT program is how it allows many former campers to return to the program as leaders, and we love to see them mature and grow into this role.
