Hi, Margot,

If appropriate, please pass this on to the neighborhood listserv.

This morning when I went out to get into our car, which was parked in our driveway on Avon Hill Street, the driver's side door was not entirely closed.  When I opened it I realized that someone had been in the car -- things were spread across the seat.  The only thing missing was my husband's watch, which we had hidden and had forgotten to bring inside.  There was also a bicycle propped against a bush near the driveway -- maybe the person was surprised and fled without the bike??

We reported this to the police. They wanted us to be part of filing a police report -- they explained that it is important to have a record of things like this.  The officer who came said that there has been a pattern in the past of someone entering only unlocked vehicles (I guess I forget to lock the car) in our neighborhood.  We agreed that in the scheme of things we were lucky that we lost only a moderately valuable watch and had no damage to our car.

So please remember to lock your car, and do report any incidents like this to the police.
