I've got a few particularly interesting things coming up in March, which I'd love to share with you all!
0. My month of being Somerville Artist-of-the-Month ends today, so there's that!
1. Mardi Gras with Revolutionary Snake Ensemble! This (Fat) Tuesday 3/5, Regattabar (in the Charles Hotel, Harvard Sq, Cambridge), 7:30pm. With special guests Alonzo Demetrius & Brian Richburg Jr, the band of me, Tom Hall, Jerry Sabatini, Dave Harris, Blake Newman, and Phil Neighbors will return for our annual (oft-sold out) Mardi Gras throw-down on the actual date of this year's Mardi Gras - party like they do in New Orleans!
2. Tutoring Plus Tropical Party! Thursday 3/7, Broad Institute, Main St, Kendall Sq, Cambridge, 6-9pm. Enjoy a great buffet dinner, dance music by the CRLS World Jazz Ensemble, and watch me being embarrassed (and honored) in front of the crowd by being given this year's Children's Champion award. All while supporting a great community organization that provides free tutoring to area youth.
3. Marathon Reading of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road", Saturday 3/9, Pollard Library, Lowell, MA, 12 noon sharp. I'll be providing a short saxophone invocation, and then I'll be the first of over 100 readers ("I first met Dean..."). Free!
4. Bittersweet Band, Saturday 3/16, Cultural Center of Cape Cod, South Yarmouth, MA, 8pm. I'll be playing with this great old school funk and r&b band!
5. Animated Films of Karen Aqua, with live soundtracks by Ken Field Alto Sax Quartet + Drums, Friday 3/22, ICA/Boston, 8pm. Presented by ICA/Boston & WordMusic/CrashArts. A tribute to my late wife, the amazing animator Karen Aqua, with music performed by me with Stan Strickland, Lihi Haruvi, and Neil Leonard on alto saxes, and Savannah Marshall on drums.
6. RSE at a fundraiser for Nemasket River Productions Theater Company, Sat 3/30, 7:30pm, Middleborough Town Hall Ballroom, Middleborough, MA.
