Say No to Phonebooks
Do you use a paper phone book anymore? Many of us don't... but they still get delivered. Take 2 minutes and go to www.yellowpagesoptout.com today. This is a new, national opt-out website, where you can end delivery of paper phone books to your doorstep.
Sign up for a Recycling Tour (4/13, 5/19 or 6/14)
See how your recyclables get separated at Casella Recycling in Charlestown and marketed to companies that make products from recycled materials. City employees and Cambridge residents are invited for upcoming tours scheduled for April 13 at 2pm, May 19 at 9am or June 14 at 9am. The tours last about 2 ½ hours. 25 people can sign up for each. Email recycle@cambridgema.gov to sign up. We meet at DPW (147 Hampshire St) and carpool. Let us know if you can drive and how many people you can take. Find out more about where your recycling goes!
Cribs for Success: Toys R Us Recycling Program
Through February 21, Babies R Us and Toys R Us stores are holding the “Great Trade-In” event. You can trade-in any used cribs, car seats, bassinets, strollers, travel systems, play yards, toddler beds or high chairs in exchange for a 25% savings on the purchase of any new baby item, in select product categories, from select manufacturers. For more details, click here.
Landlord Conference on Energy and Weatherization
Don’t miss this half-day conference! March 19th, 9am-12:30pm at 344 Broadway. Take advantage of incentives to weatherize your properties. Find out about high-efficiency equipment, appliances and lighting, solar hot water and solar electric. You could get 75% of the cost of improvements up to $2,000 per unit. The contractor is paid directly so there is no hassle with rebate forms or reimbursement. For more info, or for an energy assessment contact the Cambridge Energy Alliance at 617-491-0488 or eadvisor@cambridgeenergyalliance.org.
Seeking Nominations for 2011 Go Green Awards
The City’s Go Green Awards recognize exceptional environmental practices in five areas—energy use, transportation, waste reduction, stormwater management, and climate protection. Nominations are accepted for Cambridge businesses, institutions, large residential buildings (13+ units), commercial properties and non-profits. Self nominations are welcome. The deadline for nominations is April 4, 2011. Click here for a nomination form. Submit to: John Bolduc, jbolduc@cambridgema.gov, fax 617-349-4633. Good luck!
April 9 Next Household Hazardous Waste Collection
2011 dates: April 9, June 4 and October 1 from 9am-1pm. NEW LOCATION: at Parking Lot on Field Street at Fern Street by Danehy Park. Cambridge residents only. Click here for info on materials accepted, alternative options and items you can bring to the Recycling Center during open hours.
