I was listening to Boston Public Radio today, Jan. 25, [WGBH 89.7 FM https://www.wgbh.org/news/boston-public-radio on 11a-2 pm; listen tomorrow to streaming 1/25 segment on cheap electricity rates] and learned about electricity aggregation—MA municipalities can aggregate the electrical load of customers within their borders to procure competitive supply of electricity.
Why have I NEVER received any information about this from the city of Cambridge? There were, apparently, 4 public meetings in 2017 but an all-residents USPS mailing would have done a better job. Sheesh. They do those all-residents mailing for the annual budget (in 4-color, multiple-page brochure), for the city census, and other issues.
Here are links to info on the cheapest electric rates in Cambridge:• Cambridge’s city link to it: https://www.cambridgema.gov/CDD/climateandenergy/energyefficiencyandrenewableenergy/switchingtocompetitivesupplyandgreenpowerpurchasing• The program offers Cambridge electricity customers more renewable electricity by creating a new local solar project. Direct Energy is the electricity supplier providing fixed electricity prices from January 2021 through December 2023. The Cambridge Community Electricity Program offers residents and businesses two electricity options, Standard Green and 100% Green Plus. Both options are usually less expensive than Eversource Basic Service Rates, though Eversource rates change every six months. Residents and small businesses are automatically enrolled in the Standard Green option and can opt-out of the program or upgrade to 100% Green Plus at anytime.• Community solar makes it easy for Camb. residents to access the financial benefits of local solar power. Subscribe to a share of a local solar farm with no equipment to install and no long-term commitments. It doesn’t matter whether you rent or own. It’s an effortless way to support clean energy near you – and typically save 5%-15% on your annual electricity costs while doing so! Visit https://communitysolar.energysage.com/ to find community solar subscriptions.• Questions or comments can be directly to Cambridge Community Electricity program consultants at 1-844-379-9934 or cambridge@masspowerchoice.com.
• Please note that it may take up to two billing cycles for the change to appear on your bill, as changes can only be made at the start of a billing cycle. Be sure to use the name on the electric account and the account-service address when completing the form. If the electric account is under the name of the business, please use the First Name and Last Name fields to enter the business name as it appears on your bill.• https://www.masspowerchoice.com/cambridge/enroll/enroll-online
