It's been a while, so I wanted to check in with everyone and share some updates on our Seeds & Glory for Seniors project. Thanks to the generous time of many of you, we have given out a lot of seed pods and our seniors have been grateful. Now is a great time to grow seedlings, especially if you have any south facing sun. We want to spend the next 6 weeks with our second wave of distribution to those who did not get pods in the first wave earlier this year. After we finish with this second wave, we will move into planning for our 2nd annual🌻Let's Grow Something Together Sunflower Project. Our seniors are very appreciative of what you are doing to spread a little joy. You all rock! Here is what we have done together thus far since January: Assembled over 600 seed pods Distributed over 440 pods Identified more than 20 senior and affordable housing distribution sites Generated a waiting list of 500+ pod/seedling requests Distributed thousands of seeds donated by the Cambridge Health Department, Cambridge in Motion initiative via seed swapping thanks to Cambridge City Growers! Grown over 60 seedlings (I am only counting mine because I have not done an inventory of the others in the pipeline) Recruited 30 volunteers Received over a dozen calls from Seniors who were very appreciative. The work continues, so here is how you can engage with us: Please drop off your seed pods so we can get them out to the community, or better yet, let me know how many you have ready and we can match your drop off with a site Are your seedlings ready to pass on? We can arrange for them to be dropped off at a site to reduce travel time in the cold Want to assemble seed pods? We have 2 kits to pick up Interested in growing seedlings? I have a fresh batch of growing soil, so we are good to provide you with the seeds, soil and growing bags. All you need is water and sunshine We need Transporters to pick up and drop off seedlings and pods that are ready for distribution. Melissa Ludtke from Mother's Out Front has been an amazing Transporter and we are so appreciative. Sign up for our Seeds & Glory movement. Invite your neighbor, family member or friend to join us and other partner organizations to sign up here: https://bit.ly/seedsandglory2020 Donate growing soil, twine or grow bags. If needed, I am happy to do an Zoom orientation for this project. Jenny, Fenja and I look forward to hearing from you. Let's Grow! Nicola -- Nicola A.
