there was also an armed robbery a few weeks ago at the corner store on Walden.  Wonder if it's connected?  They got a picture of that guy. 

We should keep in mind how unusual this is though--violent crime seems to happen maybe once or twice per year in the whole Porter Square area.  Attached is a graphic from the 2012 Police Report showing all reported gun crimes in Cambridge from 2010-2012.  I believe the one assault listed for Porter Square involved a fight that broke out late at night at "Gourmet Express" on Upland and Mass. Ave. in which one guy had a bullet graze his butt.  

Bike thefts, car thefts, and home invasions are, sadly, not so uncommon in our area, but violent crime thankfully is quite rare.

I'm not going to significantly revise my sense of the dangerousness of the neighborhood unless we see more such incidents.
