Buena Vista Social Club Neighbors,
I direct your attention to Craig Kelly’s next to last paragraph(below) re State Senator Pat Jehlen, whom I can also wholeheartedly endorse. And to the ward/precinct map he attached. I fear the redrawing of districts has everyone a little confused.
You will also, at least most of you on this list will, get a chance to vote for Marjorie Decker as State Representative to succeed Alice Wolf (covering most of Wards 4,6, 7, 8 & 10), who has announced her retirement. Alice has thrown her support behind Marjorie, and I do as well, having had, and enjoyed, the chance to work with her over the course of this never-ending election cycle. With any luck we will end up with a MA senator and a US senator who live within blocks or most of us! And both women!
Please go VOTE! no matter your choice. And may we all get back to life (and sleep and TV) as close to normal soon.
Your neighbor,
Ruth

Subject: North Cambridge State Rep and State Senator races- Hecht, Rogers and Jehlen
Folks:
Tomorrow all of us in North Cambridge will get the opportunity to vote for new people for State Representative and State Senator. You may wish to double check where you vote because some of the Ward/Precinct lines were redrawn. I have attached a Ward/Precinct map and if you still have questions call the Election Commission at (617) 349-4361.
If you vote at the Gately Shelter, like I do, you are in the Ward 11, Precinct 2, which is in the 29th Middlesex State Representative District. This Precinct was redistricted away from Belmont/North Cambridge/East Arlington and into a district that stretches west into Watertown. Jon Hecht is running for re-election for that seat and I plan on voting for him. I’ve known Jon for years and found him to be an intelligent, responsive man who will, I think, do a great job representing us new comers. http://jonhecht.com/. As an aside, please remember to bring some money to purchase baked goods and other snacks from Peabody and Rindge Ave Upper Campus tables in the outside hallway. These Election Day bake sales do a lot to bring the school communities discretionary funds and the food is generally pretty good.
If you vote at either Jefferson Park or the Burns Apartment Buildings, you are in Ward 11, Precinct 1 or Ward 11 Precinct 3. These Precincts remain in the 24th Middlesex State Representative’s district and the person I suggest you vote for is North Cambridge’s own Dave Rogers. Dave has impressed me as a smart, committed, articulate man whose experience in and views on important issues such as education and environmental technology will, I think, make him a valuable asset in the State House. http://rogers4rep.com/ That he also lives basically around the corner from most of us and is always going to have an available ear to hear our concerns, even if we don’t live in 11-1 or 11-3, is an added plus.
When it comes to State Senate, all of us in North Cambridge are now in the Second Middlesex. Senator Pat Jehlen has picked us up and if you check out her website, http://www.patjehlen.org/, I think that you will find her to be a good replacement for Will Brownsberger. I’ve known Pat since my kids started doing the Open Air Circus several years ago and have always found her to be energetic, capable and well-informed. Even before tomorrow’s election, she’s been making efforts to learn more about the new Cambridge part of the district (Second Middlesex also covers West Cambridge)- she really cares about who she’s working for. And how many constituents can say their Senator looks good on stilts?
I hope this email helps you to both understand the impacts of our redistricting a bit better and why I support Jon, Dave and Pat as I do. They are all good, smart, energetic, responsive people and I think they will serve us very well on Beacon Hill.
Sincerely,
Craig
