A map of the impacted area is also attached. Best regards, Lee Gianetti Director of Communications & Community Relations City of Cambridge 795 Massachusetts Ave Cambridge, MA 02139 For Immediate Release City of Cambridge Announces East Cambridge Traffic Pattern Changes Temporary traffic shifts expected to remain in place until April 1 Cambridge, MAFeb. 18, 2015 Starting Thursday, February 19, selected streets in East Cambridge will temporarily change from two-way streets to one-way streets. Affected streets include: Otis St, Thorndike St, Hurley St, Fifth St, and Sciarappa St. These changes are occurring as a result of the recent winter storm events narrowing many streets in Cambridge. East Cambridge has been particularly impacted by these conditions, and the City is taking steps to improve public safety during current snow conditions. Crews will begin posting ³Do Not Enter² signs throughout the neighborhood on Thursday. It is expected that these traffic shifts will remain in place until April 1. Over the next week, city staff will continue to evaluate streets throughout the city to determine if additional changes are warranted. The City asks that drivers look for signs indicating the "Do Not Enter" locations and follow the new directional plan, as it will reduce conflicts and improve access for public safety vehicles. Parked vehicles that are facing the wrong way will not be ticketed; however, drivers are asked when returning to the area, that they park their vehicle in the new direction. With current snow conditions causing reduced sightlines at corners and narrowing of streets, all residents and visitors are asked to use extra caution when navigating the city by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle. For more information on the City¹s snow operations, please visit www.cambridgema.gov. Residents with questions about these traffic changes can contact Public Works at 617.349.4800 or the Traffic Department at 617.349.4700. - ### -
