The Small Business Challenge offers grant funding to Cambridge businesses, business associations, and groups of neighborhood businesses to implement projects that invigorate their business district through improved design, marketing and promotion strategies, and enhanced business resilience. The 2019 Small Business Challenge winners have implemented the following projects: · Cambridge Local First launched an updated website that will support the organization's membership recruitment and business promotion efforts. · The Central Square Business Association developed a marketing booklet that promotes and highlights the Business Improvement District (BID) formation efforts in Central Square. · The East Cambridge Business Association developed a catalog of professional and branded photos for use in promoting East Cambridge and Inman Square. · The Harvard Square Business Association refreshed existing outdoor cafe tables and chairs for public use in Harvard Square. CDD is currently accepting applications for the 2020 Small Business Challenge. To learn about eligibility and the application process, visit our website. Harvard Square Station Busway Improvements are Underway Starting June 23, the MBTA began improving the Harvard Station's underground busway tunnels which were last renovated in the 1980s. Construction will be phased to maintain bus service above ground during construction with one tunnel remaining open at all times. The planned construction will require closure of one tunnel at a time for a six-month period. Learn more about the MBTA project at MBTA.com/harvardbus. View More News from CDD Save the Date - November 30th Cambridge is Celebrating Small Business Saturday This year the City of Cambridge is celebrating Small Business Saturday! In an effort to support small and neighborhood businesses, the Community Development Department will be working with business associations and business owners to encourage local residents and visitors to shop local this holiday season. We are asking business owners to please fill out a 3-question survey letting us know if you are planning any events, specials, or other activities on November 30th or during the rest of the holiday season.
