FW: Community Notice: 1/5/2010

Well, it ain't over till you know what happens. In case you want to know more..or want to attend the Somerville Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, the info is below. If you follow the link, you can find the particular conditions for building on this site. I do not have an opinion, as I have not followed this proposed project. Seth Goodman (see below) has, and I am sure he would be willing to talk with you. I do know there is much concern about additional congestion/confusion at the intersection of Somerville Ave/Beacon, and Beacon/Roseland. Another part of me says that area could use an upgrade. Wednesday, Jan 6th 6pm City Hall Alderman Chambers 93 Highland Ave, Somerville Agenda: http://www.somervillema.gov/PubMtgs.cfm The developer is seeking a special permit to construct the hotel. The public may speak at this hearing, so all are welcome to participate in this process. On December 17th, the Planning Board voted to recommend with conditions the proposed hotel. It's now up to the ZBA to approve the special permit. The Planning Board received our petition to not recommend the project, and Claudia and I were exceptionally allowed to comment on the project before the board. Despite our concerns, and possibly some of theirs, they voted unanimously to accept the recommendation as prepared by the planning staff. See the following link for the conditions: http://www.somervillema.gov/Section.cfm?org=OSPCD <http://www.somervillema.gov/Section.cfm?org=OSPCD&page=1204> &page=1204 <http://www.somervillema.gov/Section.cfm?org=OSPCD&page=1204> <http://www.somervillema.gov/Section.cfm?org=OSPCD&page=1204> (scroll down to 369 Beacon and click on Staff Report). Folks, I ain't gonna sugar coat it. I believe this project will be granted it's special permit. However, if enough people show up to express opposition, it could be enough to for the ZBA to reject or attach additional conditions. Please come and be heard. -- Seth Goodman --- -- Phoebe Sinclair, Community Liaison Agassiz Neighborhood Council Agassiz Baldwin Community 20 Sacramento Street Cambridge, MA 02138 617-349-6287 x10 www.agassiz.org
