Hello neighbors, A quick reminder to come on down to Harvard Square this Sunday and don't forget to check out the new Food Trucks on the Charles Riverfront. Visitors to Riverbend Park (Memorial Drive Closure between Western Avenue and Eliot Bridge) this Sunday can enjoy freshly prepared food while taking in the top notch view. With the Urban Ag Fair and RiverSing taking place in the Harvard Square environs, visitors would do well to include a river stroll and partake in the tasty offerings of both food trucks. The Clover and Redbones food trucks are the first trucks participating in the Cambridge Riverfront Mobile Food Program and will be up and running this Sunday, September 18 at the corner of Memorial Drive and Hingham Street next to the New Riverside Neighborhood Park (Clover) and at the corner of Memorial Drive and Flagg Street (Redbones). Both spots have become popular gathering areas for cyclists and others enjoying the Sunday Riverbend Park (Memorial Drive Closure). BACKGROUND: Cambridge Riverfront Plan: Reconnecting People to the Water. As an outgrowth of its riverfront planning study, which generated recommendations to increase access and recreation opportunities along the Cambridge side of the Charles River, the City of Cambridge is seeking applications from qualified Mobile Food Truck or Cart operators to lease public parking locations on certain City streets adjacent to riverfront parks from which to sell freshly-prepared food and beverages to the general public. Spaces will be made available to Cambridge-licensed and permitted mobile food operators on Sundays through October 2011. Operators will apply to participate in the program and qualifying operators will be offered spaces to lease on a week-by-week basis. A per-day fee will be charged for use of the spaces. These spaces are being made available as a pilot program, which will be evaluated by City staff to determine whether and how a future program might be implemented.
