FW: Zero Waste/Compost Hearing on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, 1 PM

From: "Kathy Roberts" <kathyroberts4@comcast.net> Subject: FW: Zero Waste/Compost Hearing on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, 1 PM Date: October 3, 2018 at 12:56:25 PM EDT Hi Folks, I think that this is an important meeting. The composting that Cambridge is doing is to reduce trash. A Good thing. BUT this is not about re-earthing or making compost for the city. It is making sludge and dumped into the ocean? It would be good to find out how the city can ALSO engage in re-earthing /good compost. Please send this on to people who can go to the meeting. Kathy Hi folks please share this announcement with friends and neighbors. perhaps it can go out on the CRA listserve, if someone is connected with them. On Tuesday, October 9th, the City Council of Cambridge will hold a hearing at 1 PM on its Zero Waste goals, Recycling, and Composting program. I have been asked to testify, which I am really looking forward to. Laura Orlando, the sewage expert who teaches at Boston University School of Public Health and directs RILES, will also be testifying. It will be held at City Hall, 2nd floor, Sullivan Chamber. https://www.cambridgema.gov/CityCalendar/view.aspx?guid=f4c5aaa3e9864a36b707... While the middle of the afternoon is a tough time for people to make, I feel it is very important for Cambridge residents to be there and express their concerns. Hope you can make it, and please share it with your networks! J Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions. Thank you! Hi there. Do I understand correctly that the food waste we are gathering and putting into the green compost collectors is being turned into sludge and dumped into the ocean? If so, can a verified source for this information please be provided? Disturbing... Thank you.
