Budget is $8.5M. We want this done right! Your input is important. Some comments for you to consider submitting if you agree: 1. Safety - If the kiosk is not actively occupied until 9 or 10 am, and dark after 10 pm, won't there be people sleeping and camping under the eaves? The news operation for all its faults has kept that problem mostly at bay. Won't that make the Square less attractive to visitors? 2. Governance - Whoever gets the management contract should not sit on the supervisory committee. 3. Not Very Iconic - The proposed plan restores the kiosk and declutters and renovates the plaza, but it does not seem iconic, other than the historic kiosk itself, which was one of the catchwords that many people on the working group seemed to want. Is there no way to make the kiosk and plaza more iconic? 4. Functionality - The pictures in the CDD brochure show furniture. Movable furniture will need to be stored, retrieved, locked up, etc. Where is the storage for all the chairs and tables? 5. History - Is there no way to tell the history of the original settlement that was intended to be the capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony? Are we missing a huge opportunity to have a real history center in the place millions of people come each year? 6. Public Amenities - This is proposed to be a space for public assembly but there are no public bathrooms. Is this a good idea? ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Cambridge Community Development Department <cddat344@cambridgema.gov> Sent: Sunday, January 13, 2019, 2:40:46 PM EST Subject: Harvard Square Kiosk and Plaza Design Open House: January 31 Working Group Final Report Also Available Harvard Square Kiosk and Plaza Design Open House on January 31st In conjunction with the Harvard Square Kiosk and Plaza Working Group process, the City of Cambridge has been developing design concepts for renovating the historic Harvard Square Kiosk..
