Hi there, As many of you you know or have first-hand experienced, rats ABOUND in Cambridge.
With a little google research, we discovered that cities like Chicago, Boston, & NYC have had great success using dry ice instead of poison (in burrows). If you drop it into rat holes and then cover the hole, it can asphyxiate them in the hole/burrows. If you do not see another rate hole soon appear then chances are you have killed the nesting rats. Not all cities (exterminating companies) have the official approval to use it yet (as from what I understand it needs to be on the EPA's official list of "Rodenticides") but given that it is not poisonous (like the current, well, POISON that is used!) and keeps them underground to decompose, I am not sure what the hold up is.
Anyway, just wanted to pass this along. I'm not suggesting that you do this (bc it is not yet sanctioned by the EPA) -BUT- I have reliable intel. that it works REALLY well.
Good luck! *Judy
