Event description
A Rising Tide: Growing Together through Innovation, Inclusion and Equity Learn how race, class and culture are challenging and changing communities like Kendall Square nationwide from Byron Hurt, film maker and lecturer Kendall Square isn’t just the innovation and pharmaceutical mecca seen driving down Main Street. It is home to many generations of residents who are feeling the impact of gentrification and socioeconomic disparity as buildings housing research and development, technology and entrepreneurship grow up around them. Byron Hurt is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, published writer, anti-sexist activist, and lecturer. He is also the former host of the Emmy-nominated television show, REEL WORKS with BYRON HURT. For more than 20 years, Hurt has been using his craft, his voice, and his writings to broaden and deepen how people think about gender violence, race, music, visual media, and food justice. As an activist, Byron has served as a gender violence preventioneducator. Hosted by the Kendall Community Group The Kendall Community Group supports youth and families in the Port/Area IV neighborhood of Cambridge by nurturing partnerships between local businesses, institutions, and three long-standing local nonprofits - Community Art Center, Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House, and Tutoring Plus of Cambridge.
