What a great resource Lesley is! ********************************** Award-winning photographer and filmmaker Carrie Mae Weems is the latest presenter in Lesley University's Strauch-Mosse Visiting Artist Lecture Series. The lecture takes place on Thursday, October 1, at 7 pm in Marran Theater, 34 Mellon Street, Cambridge. An influential American artist for more than 30 years, Carrie Mae Weems¹s work <http://carriemaeweems.net/work.html> investigates a variety of compelling and relevant topics, including racism, family relationships, cultural identity, sexism, social and economic class and the consequences of power. Among her many achievements, in 2013 Weems received the MacArthur ³Genius² grant as well as the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation¹s Lifetime Achievement Award. She was one of four artists recognized at the Guggenheim¹s 2014 International Gala and has been featured in major exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum and other major museums around the world. This fall she will be receiving the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal of Honor from Harvard University along with Muhammad Ali, Marian Wright Edelman, Eric Holder, and three other recipients.
