Auburn) Hey Everyone: You’d think that after 10 zillion dollars’ worth of higher education, I’d be able to read dates properly, but it turns out I am flawed in that regard so please excuse this correction. Hamlet will play again at Danehy Park this coming weekend, Thursday-Sunday, 11-14 July, at Danehy Park near the Sherman Street entrance. Hope and I saw it Friday night and it was fantastic. There are all sorts of lines I recognized, but I would have been wise to read a recap of the plot beforehand. Not to be a spoiler, but as you can see from the attached picture, someone dies in this play. Actually, a lot of people die in this play but I won’t tell you who. And it is also full of great advice such as “Be wary, then; best safety lies in fear.” Sounds like something my Dad told me once or twice….. We sat close to the marked off stage (ropes in the grass) on the left side as you look at the ‘stage.’ These were great seats- the show is not miked and not being too close to the playground or too far from the actors really made watching and hearing it easier, so you may want to get there early enough to sit in a similar location. We could literally see the sweat on the actors’ arms, it was that intimate a show. We brought the cute dog we are dog-sitting so we got extra attention from the actors, which was fun. Don’t forget the blanket and picnic fixings.
From 18-28 July, Hamlet will show at Longfellow Park, off of Mount Auburn Street.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 PM, Sunday shows are at 4 PM. The shows, sponsored by the Cambridge Arts Council, are free and open to the public. And, again, don’t forget the Tuesday evening concerts, also at Danehy and presented by Club Passim, from 6-8 PM until 6 August. Like Shakespeare, these events are a wonderful way to enjoy some of the best that Cambridge has to offer. Have a great week.
