Friends in the Mt. Vernon Street neighborhood--

I'm writing to friends in our immediate neighborhood about the affordable housing development proposed for the lots next to Lesley's art center. I'm organizing an "on site" tour and Q & A session with the developers next Saturday (January 6) at noon. It will last less than one hour and won't interfere with any football watching.

If you haven't heard about 1791 Mass Ave, the developers are proposing to transform the run-down Victorian on the property (last used as a medical office) into a 100% affordable family community with 40 apartments. The front building will continue to have its Victorian look but a new structure will added in the rear.

I know one of the developers from an award-winning project in Brockton (Jason Korb/Capstone Communities) and I've toured an impressive development that Jason and his partner Sean Hope did in Kendall Square (Port Landing). The 1791 Mass Ave development was designed by Bruner/Cott Architects, who many of us know from their work on the Lunder Arts Center. The project website is: http://1791massave.com/.

This tour and Q& A is timed for this Saturday because the proposal goes before the Zoning Board of Appeal on January 11, 2018. I support the proposal but the point of Saturday's visit is so that you are informed and, if you are interested, can provide your views. Although there have been a number of public and neighborhood meetings on the development, I know not everyone has attended those.

Please let me know if you can join me. Depending on the temperature, I may need to have a hot beverage plan to keep us all warm enough!
