Stop receiving unwanted junk mail and phonebooks. Cambridge residents have already prevented over 18,000 pounds of CO2 emissions since August 1st. Join them and sign up for free at https://cambridge.catalogchoice.org/. Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Bulbs are not accepted with curbside recycling. Residents have several options <http://www.cambridgema.gov/theworks/ourservices/recyclingandtrash/hazardous wastecollection/florescentlights.aspx> to recycle compact fluorescent bulbs and long tubes, including at the Recycling Center and at local hardware stores. Clean up <http://www.mass.gov/dep/toxics/stypes/cflclnup.htm> broken bulbs, then bring in a plastic bag. Do not tape long tubes together and bring in a cardboard box. Prescription Meds Residents have several safe disposal options <http://www.cambridgepublichealth.org/hot-topic/medication-disposal.php> for unwanted or unused prescription medicines, including at a permanent drop box at the Police Dept at 125 Sixth Street. Place medicine (no liquids) in a sealed plastic bag and drop-off 24/7 in the lobby, near the Records Unit. Syringes/Needles Residents should collect used needles and syringes in a puncture-proof container (detergent bottles, coffee cans) and seal with tape. Bring to the ground floor kiosk at the Health Center at 119 Windsor Street. No loose needles, no medications and no other medical supplies. Residents may request sharps containers at the Health Center. . Are You Hooked Into Freecycle and Craig's List? Freecycle has 5000+ members in Cambridge and a whopping 8 million worldwide. People give and get stuff for free. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills (or the incinerator). Membership is free, go to www.freecycle.org to sign up. Craig's List features free online classifieds. The For Sale section focuses on appliances, baby gear, bikes, books, clothing, electronics, furniture, tools, toys, vehicles and more! 50+ million people in the US use the site. Max of 25 people per tour. Sorry, but no one under 16 can attend. You must be able to walk at a steady pace, often on narrow metal catwalks and on stairs. We meet at DPW and carpool.
