We had great participation from the merchants up and down the Avenue who had cleaned their sidewalks and many of the tree/plant beds. Looks great Guys! Once again the annual Porter Square cleanup was a great success. We cleaned most of the sidewalks between Beech Street and Shepard street as well as the MBTA station and park.
Nearly 30 people showed up, including regulars from PSNA, Agassiz, and Neighborhood Nine, quite a few new participants, and eight energetic members of the Lesley Track and Field team. It was a pleasant surprise to see a wide range of ages, including of people in their 20's and 30's.
Christophers' Restaurant hosted some ten of us after the cleanup and donated several plates of snacks. Tags contributed lots of brooms, gloves, and bags in past years; we were able to re-use most of them and anticipate continuing support in future years. The Cambridge DPW did a special trash bag pickup, and the MBTA promised to clean the windows of the Red Line head house.
Lesley University, the Agassiz Neighborhood Council, and the Ward Ten Democratic committee provided publicity, and Ruth Ryals, Susan Hunziker, and (blush) yours truly organized the whole thing. I thought it went very smoothly this year, but we are always open to suggestions for the future, for example in getting greater involvement from businesses.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!
