In particular we're looking for Cambridge people who think the climate issues don't concern them. This issue is really about public health and air quality, cost of energy, future of the planet, health of our children, good paying jobs and our responsibility to use nature's resources responsively. These issues matter to us all. Please pass this on freely to friends, people in your neighborhood, your work networks, your email newtworks and other places. I believe we can have an impact in our city and we can be a role model for other cities. Minka Mayor Simmons has issued an invitation to the public to participate in the Climate Emergency Congress scheduled for December 12 and January 23. See her letter at http://www.cambridgema.gov/deptann.cfm?story_id=2420. Interested people can sign up online. Delegates to the congress will be selected. **************************************************************************** ******************************************* Dear friends, Mayor Simmons has issued an <http://www.cambridgema.gov/deptann.cfm?story_id=2420> invitation to the public to participate in the Climate Emergency Congress scheduled for December 12 and January 23. Please take a moment to read the invite below. This is an opportunity to provide feedback to the city on ways the Cambridge community can fight climate change and build a more sustainable future! Best wishes, Lilah Glick A Message from the Public Information Office Nov 16, 2009 Cambridge Climate Congress Dec. 12. Participants Sought. A Special Message from Cambridge Mayor E. Denise Simmons: I would like to invite you to take part in the Cambridge Climate Emergency Congress on Saturday, December 12, from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., at Cambridge City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Avenue, in Central Square. There will be a follow-up session on Saturday, January 23. While world leaders delay on taking serious action on climate change, the City of Cambridge, along with other cities world-wide, is weighing in. We know that time is short to deal with the climate crisis, and we know that we can take actions that will not only reduce our contributions to global climate change but will make our city a more livable, just and vibrant place to live and work. The Climate Congress will recommend actions to the Cambridge City Council to meet those goals. We would like people of all ages from every different group and neighborhood to take part. The emergency is real, and the opportunities are great. I am inviting organizations of all kinds, community groups, businesses, institutions and faith-based organizations, to nominate representatives to participate in the Congress. Individuals are also invited to apply. Up to 100 delegates will be selected to represent the full diversity of Cambridge's population, institutions, and organizations. Cambridge began to respond to climate change in 2002 and has done a great deal since, but climate science now says we must do much more than we have so far to prevent a global disaster that will profoundly affect every one of us. That is why this is an emergency, that is why seven former Cambridge Mayors have endorsed this invitation and the Congress, and that is why I urge you and your organization to become involved. To apply for the Congress go to: www.tinyurl.com/CambridgeClimateCongress <http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=EZPXR5Kr2V8feQ3ESA_2b0nQ_3d_3d> . For more information or to obtain a paper application form, please contact the Mayor's Office at 617-349-4321. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Updated information about the Congress will also be posted online at www.cambridgema.gov <http://www.cambridgema.gov/> . When we all pitch in, we can achieve amazing results!
