Hi Megan,
Are you aware that there are plans to demolish and rebuild Lincoln Way? There is a meeting today @7.30 pm in regards to this quite large project. it is small meeting that we asked the Cambridge Housing Authority to hold with some of us as concerned neighbors. it will be held in Lincoln way community room (info attached) I will go. Are you interested? Also, as you have many friends in the area, would it be possible for you to forward this to David and other people you know in the neighborhood? Sonia, John? Liz?
many thanks!
yours

Dear Neighbors,
CHA has scheduled a meeting with us TONIGHT at 7:30 in the Lincoln Way Community Room (44A). This is an opportunity to see if CHA will adjust its current building plans to address our concerns about building heights, location, and density, and traffic, safety, and construction problems.
Please email or put this alert and scanned docs in mailboxes of neighbors who you know will be affected and will want to be included in this.
City Council member, Craig Kelly, and State Rep Will Brownsberger may also attend tonight's meeting.
Thanks!
Brooks
Meeting Tonight for Wood, Raymond and Walden street Neighbors of Lincoln Way!
To: Residents of Wood, Raymond, Walden and adjoining Streets, From: Brooksany Coe, 35 Wood St Date: November 9, 2009, 2009 Re: Re-development Lincoln Way
Neighbors of Lincoln Way and the Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA) have a meeting TONIGHT, November 9 at 7:30 pm in the Lincoln Way Community Room (44A) to have a more direct conversation about redevelopment plans for Lincoln Way and the impact these plans will have on immediate neighbors.
For neighbors who are not aware, CHA plans to rebuild and expand housing units at Lincoln Way. These plans would: · increase building heights by an additional story to +/- 35 feet (without including the additional height of solar panels), · expand the square footage of living space by 25%, · push buildings closer against most neighboring properties, · add roads through and along most of the perimeters of the property (immediately abutting neighbors¹ lots).
Neighbors and non-resident community members WERE NOT consulted about plans or involved in the planning process to redevelop Lincoln Way. The current plans may adversely affect many neighbors and possibly you! On Oct 21, CHA held a public meeting and presented a set of developed plans to a group of neighbors.
We are asking that members of our neighborhood be included in the Lincoln Way planning process henceforth, and that CHA work with us to address some specific concerns:
* Construction will create traffic and congestion, parking, noise, and dust issues for a large number of area residents for at least a two and half year period. * Driving pylons may result in damage to existing structures, as already occurred during similar construction with the school addition. * Building heights and building location plans will obstruct views, block light, and increase living density in an already dense area, resulting in concerns about privacy and safety. * Green space will be substantially reduced and mature trees lost. * Finally, road and parking plans raise serious questions about long-term congestion and safety on Wood, which already struggles with traffic problems during drop off and pick up times for students of the Cambridge Friends¹ School.
Please come to the meeting tonight to learn more and voice how this project will affect you. If you would like to be included in a list of concerned residents, please email your contact info to coeshea@comcast.net.
