This training will take place at the Macht Auditorium on The Cambridge Hospital campus (1493 Cambridge Street, brick building in rear left) on Wednesday, May 10th and Tuesday, May 16th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Our community has set the global standard for local oversight of research biology involving genetic research and manufacturing (recombinant and synthetic biology and higher risk biological work). Assurance and transparency within our oversight program relies substantially on community involvement, as each internal biosafety committee within each permitted company or institution is REQUIRED to engage two unaffiliated (community) members to participate. In maintaining this unusual degree of public participation we have found that many interested individuals benefit from a basic training in the science, regulatory requirements, risk evaluation, and general orientation to these internal biosafety committee meetings. I encourage all permitted companies to offer participation to their current community representatives and all Cambridge community members with some interest in public service to represent the interests of your neighbors and friends in keeping this work both safe and accountable the Cambridge public. Please find the draft agenda attached, along with a brief description of the program and its purpose. If you are already convinced that you'd like to join us please proceed directly to the registration page for this event. I do request that all companies who are willing to send their community representatives to this training please have them indicate that their registration fee will be covered by the company hosting there membership on an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and follow up by submitting $50 for each person they would like to register. 2017 Cambridge Biosafety Forum Registration: http://bit.ly/biosafety-forum Hope to see many of you at the Forum both nights!
