MBTA posts update on changing Cambridge (and other Boston region) bus routes for the Better Bus Project coming on December 22, 2019 The MBTA plans to implement additional changes proposed in the Better Bus Project during the upcoming winter schedule change. Among many other changes in the region, the following bus routes in Cambridge will change starting Sunday 12/22: Route 64: Service will be extended from peak-hours only to all day on weekdays from Oak Square to Kendall/MIT. Weekend service will continue going to University Park. See the MBTA update on Route 64 here Route 61/70/70A: Route 70A will be eliminated. New Route 61 will be created to replace the route along with additional stops on Route 70. See the MBTA update on Routes 61/70/70A Route 72/74/75: Route 72 will become rush hour only service and will only run in the peak direction. Route 75 will be rerouted from the Fresh Pond Parkway to Huron Ave. to straighten the route and increase frequency. Route 74 will be straightened and have increased frequency by removing service on Blanchard Rd and Bright Rd and rerouting to Concord Ave. See the MBTA update on Routes 72/74/75 Note: Route 1 changes have been delayed until Spring 2020 View the MBTA update on December Better Bus Project changes Escalator and elevator closures The MBTA has closed the following escalators: · Central - #360 - Up from the Alewife platform to street level for maintenance· Porter - #510 - will be unavailable on 1/14 for maintenance (upcoming) The MBTA has closed the following elevators: · Central - #861 - between the Ashmont/Braintree platform and street level - through spring 2020 for replacement. Alternative access available by travelling to Kendall/MIT station and requesting then boarding an accessibility shuttle.· Alewife - #815 - between the main lobby and parking garage - through the winter of 2019-20 while it is being replaced. Use the adjacent Alewife Elevator 814 as an alternative. · Harvard - #973 - between the Upper Bus way and Brattle Square will be closed due to renovations between 12/4-12/22. The Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization conducts transportation planning for 97 Boston area cities and decide how to allocate federal and state transportation funds. They recently released a survey to gauge public opinion on what transportation issues they should conduct studies on to generate new data and help shape new concepts to improve the region's transportation future. Submit your ideas to the Boston MPO Transit equity? System improvements? New bike network links? Tell the Boston MPO what you want them to focus on The MPO also released a survey to gauge public opinion on how they should prioritize, fund, and evaluate transportation projects. This survey is for anyone in the Boston Metropolitan to share their input and contribute their opinion. Take the survey and share it! Take the Boston MPO survey on your Priorities Tell us how River Street works (or doesn't work) for you today The River Street Reconstruction project will refresh outdated infrastructure above and below the street surface. Tell us your perceptions and thoughts about River Street today. Your answers will inform how the City designs the street and the City will compare responses before and after reconstruction. This survey should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. The selected individual will work to lower the number of fatal and serious crashes on Boston’s roadways and increase the number of people bicycling and walking in the City.
